En el viaje de vuelta a Europa en barco\, Peter permanece encerrado en una diminuta jaula que le obliga a estar de cuclillas todo el tiempo. Sin aparente libertad\, al mono no le queda otra opción más que buscar una salida para acabar con la tortura que le produce su cautiverio. Encuentra su vía de escape a través de la imitación de sus captores: los seres humanos. Tras un duro aprendizaje consigue hablar\, con lo que logra poder elegir entre vivir en un zoo\, lo que sería volver a una jaula\, o trabajar en el teatro de variedades bajo las órdenes de Monteroni\, productor de Music Hall. Elige lo segundo.
